Brandon Yuan joined CCAM as a Summer 2025 Intern and is continuing his work into the academic year. Brandon is pursuing a degree in Computer Science at the University of Virginia, where he is set to graduate in May 2026. In addition to his academic achievements, he serves as Webmaster for the Taiwanese Student Association and as a Teaching Assistant for Computer Architecture, roles that showcase both his leadership and technical strengths.
During his time at CCAM, Brandon has applied machine learning and data analysis to tackle complex manufacturing challenges. He has developed a computer vision pipeline to segment stainless steel microstructure images and calculate average grain sizes, significantly improving analysis speed and accuracy. He also created a 3D visualization tool for Phase3D LPBF height map data, enabling enhanced inspection of additive manufacturing quality through point cloud rendering and pixel-level analysis. In addition, he has worked on streaming real-time human body key point data into a virtual simulation to support interactive modeling, virtual training, and ergonomic analysis for improved performance and safety.
As his internship continues into the academic year, Brandon is building on these accomplishments by developing a standardized machine learning framework to streamline model deployment across CCAM projects, reducing overhead and improving maintainability. He is also advancing micro-activity recognition by mapping fine-grained hand-based user activities from sensor data.
Looking to the future, Brandon plans to pursue a career in the tech industry as a software engineer, with a focus on full-stack development and machine learning. He is eager to apply the skills and experiences gained at CCAM to his professional journey while continuing to explore his personal passions, which include singing, dancing, climbing, and flower arranging.
