Brenton Wood, a master’s candidate in Creative Brand Management at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Brandcenter and a graduate of the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Arts in Advertising, began his internship with CCAM in October 2025. As CCAM’s Marketing and Communications Intern, he supports the organization by creating strategic, engaging media content across multiple platforms.
At CCAM, Brenton focuses on creative and strategic communications that help strengthen the organization’s brand and outreach efforts. He manages the monthly newsletter, contributes photography for events and intern spotlights, edits photos, develops graphics, supports newsletter design, maintains back-end mailing lists, and tracks performance metrics to help measure audience engagement. This included learning new tools such as HubSpot and WordPress to keep the website up to date and working.
Brenton has also supported several major CCAM events, including the FIRST Robotics Competition at Virginia State University, the NASA-CCAM Convening, CCAM’s 2025 Open House, and other organizational initiatives. These experiences have given him opportunities to build skills in event planning, cross-collaboration, event management, and technical storytelling. Through this work, he has helped translate complex advanced manufacturing topics into clear, accessible content for public audiences, academic partners, government representatives, military service members, and industry leaders while helping maintain CCAM’s brand standards.
He has also developed his marketing skills through brand management and public facing material for CCAM. Working to take complex concepts and break them down to an easily understandable format so they can support the work the technical team creates. Supporting topics such as Industry 5.0, the Navy AMCOE, Laser Bed Powder Fusion, and more, he has had a wide array of technical material to work to understand then find ways to communicate it back to the public.
Outside of CCAM, Brenton is a master’s candidate at the VCU Brandcenter, where he continues to develop his passion for storytelling and brand strategy. He is also an avid cyclist beginning to participate in road races and has a long-term interest in video games and the worlds they create. Through his work with VCU Esports, he helps broadcast collegiate matches to wider audiences, supporting the program’s growth and visibility.
