Lane Meyer is an Additive Manufacturing Intern at the Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CCAM), where he supports advanced metal additive manufacturing research and process improvement initiatives. Lane is currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Commonwealth University and is expected to graduate in May 2026.
During his internship, Lane focused on data collection and analysis from metal additive manufacturing systems. Working with the EOS M290 system, Lane gathered and analyzed print data, developing custom scripts to graph and visualize results. His work has helped streamline data interpretation and improve insight into the printing process. To further improve efficiency and usability, Lane is developing a graphical user interface (GUI) designed to simplify and automate aspects of the data-processing workflow. This tool is intended to make additive manufacturing data easier to access and use for future projects.
In addition to software and analysis work, Lane has contributed to hands-on equipment support. He assisted with maintenance activities on the EOS M290 machine, helped create standard operating procedures (SOPs), and documented machine performance, results, and processes. This work supports operational consistency and knowledge sharing within CCAM’s additive manufacturing team. Through his internship, Lane has continued to strengthen a diverse skill set that includes process automation, coding, data analysis, and machine maintenance. These technical skills, combined with his attention to documentation and process improvement, allow him to contribute across multiple aspects of additive manufacturing research and operations.
Outside of his work at CCAM, Lane is actively involved on campus and beyond. His extracurricular interests include participation in the Advanced Magnetic Material Processing Laboratory, Ram Rocketry, and Sigma Phi Epsilon. In his free time, he enjoys playing guitar, crocheting, 3D printing, watching movies, playing tennis and badminton, and camping.
After completing his internship, Lane plans to continue his career in engineering through the Palace Acquisition Program and will be moving to the Joint Warfare Analysis Center under the U.S. Air Force. Lane’s combination of technical expertise, creativity, and curiosity makes him a valuable member of CCAM’s internship program and a promising future engineer in the field of advanced manufacturing.
