Spotlight on Jasmine Graham

Jasmine Graham, a Mechanical Engineering and Technology graduate from Virginia State University, completed her degree in December 2025 and spent the fall gaining hands-on experience across advanced manufacturing, data analytics, and Industry 5.0 initiatives at CCAM.

During her internship, Jasmine focused on manufacturing processes and programming, with an emphasis on strengthening her technical and analytical skills while gaining exposure to multiple engineering disciplines. Her experience helped her better understand how classroom knowledge translates into real-world manufacturing environments as she explored areas of specialization aligned with her career goals.

Throughout the internship, Jasmine contributed to several projects. She assisted with maintenance engineering initiatives aimed at extending machine life, improving operational efficiency, and enhancing safety by supporting the development of preventive maintenance planning tools. Jasmine conducted data analytics focused on preprocessing, analyzing, and visualizing time-series process data, building a foundation for applying data-driven methods to future machining data collection and analysis efforts.

Jasmine also assisted in advancing CCAM’s Industry 5.0 work by conducting market research and engaging engineers, companies, and technology developers to identify technology gaps and inform a technological maturation roadmap. Her work supported the creation of annotated coverage maps to guide vision sensor deployment and improve the fidelity of Industry 5.0 framework demonstrations. In addition, she led market surveys focused on chatter detection techniques and technologies in direct response to member needs.

Design and prototyping were also central to Jasmine’s contributions. She designed an RFID reader housing to support the deployment of an operator motion capture framework and used CAD and FDM technologies to develop functional prototypes for a novel machining fixture. These efforts included providing design recommendations to improve functionality and support successful first-article manufacturing.

Through this experience, Jasmine strengthened her skills in research and analysis, 3D design, quality and measurement techniques, and technical communication through presentation development. Outside of her professional work, she enjoys baking (many at CCAM were thankful for her delicious cookies and cupcakes), crocheting, roller skating, and playing tennis, bringing creativity and balance to her engineering pursuits.
