Five of Virginia’s leading academic institutions comprise CCAM’s university membership: Old Dominion University, University of Virginia, Virginia Tech, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Virginia State University. These engineering schools combined have more than 500 faculty members conducting research and educational programs in disciplines such as: aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, systems engineering, and materials science and engineering.
Combined, CCAM university members:
- Receive more than $700 million in federally funded research
- Enroll more than 9,000 undergraduate engineering students and more than 3,000 graduate engineering students
- Produce more than 1,600 undergraduate engineering degrees and more than 1,000 graduate engineering degrees each year
Faculty from these institutions work exclusively at CCAM staff and are dedicated to membership research priorities.

Organizing members sponsor directed research and participate in core research. Organizing members make a long-term commitment to CCAM and have significant influence on strategy, operations, and research by serving on CCAM’s Board of Directors, Industry Operations Board and Technical Advisory Council.
