RICHMOND, VA., January 31, 2012 – The Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CCAM) has engaged PlanIT Technology Group to architect, procure, configure, install and manage the IT environment for its 60,000 square-foot advanced manufacturing facility. The facility, which is currently under construction and expected to be complete in the summer of 2012, is located in Prince George, Va.

PlanIT Technology Group will handle all of CCAM’s IT needs, including equipment, data storage, help desk services, video/voice/wireless and licensing, all in accordance with the strict security requirements necessary to protect the directed and general research efforts taking place on behalf of CCAM’s members.

“CCAM continues to gain momentum and move towards fulfilling the economic development promise of advanced manufacturing research in Virginia,” said David R. Lohr, president and executive director of CCAM. “PlanIT Technology Group has a solid track record of handling the sensitive, high-level and integrated IT needs our members require, and I am thrilled to see this critical component of CCAM’s development come together.”

Under CCAM’s roof, best-in-class manufacturers will collaborate with accomplished faculty and students from Virginia’s top research and teaching institutions to perform advanced manufacturing research in two priority areas: surface engineering and manufacturing systems. The facility will house computational and large-scale production labs, as well as open production space for heavy equipment and surface coating processes, including a thermal spraying machine, a directed vapor deposition machine, integrated data acquisition systems and a thermal conductivity measurement system.
“The CCAM facility – and its operations – are top-notch,” said Nigel Buttery, President of PlanIT Technology Group. “Our experienced team is well-prepared to create and manage its IT infrastructure, and we look forward to a long, successful partnership together.”
